Đề thi môn Tiếng Anh (40 câu trắc nghiệm)
Read the following passage about why repeated claims seem true and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the option that best fits each of the numbered blanks from 1 to 5.
Hear a claim often enough and it begins to sound true. Psychologists have studied this tendency, known as the illusory truth effect, since the late 1970s. In a typical study, volunteers rate how true a series of trivia statements are, some of which they have already seen in an earlier session. Statements (1) _______ before are judged more likely to be true than new ones, whether or not they actually are.
(2) _______. In one study, repetition raised belief even in statements that contradicted facts the participants could correctly recall when asked directly. (3) _______ a repeated sentence is easier to process, the brain seems to mistake that ease for a sign of accuracy.
(4) _______. On social media, the same false story may appear in a reader's feed several times in a single day, each time feeling a little more familiar. There is some good news, however. Studies suggest that asking people to judge how accurate a statement is when they first see it makes them less likely (5) _______ by it later, at least when they already know something about the topic. Before believing or sharing a claim, then, it is wise to ask whether you actually know it to be true or have merely heard it before.
